Girls compete for pageant crowns while having fun with friends and family.

Girls aged 3-22 compete for titles of New Mexico American Coed State Queen at Albuquerque’s historic Wool Warehouse

Albuquerque, NM -- Girls from around New Mexico compete for their pageant dream in Albuquerque this week; seven from different age groups, 3 to 22 years, will be crowned American Coed Pageant Queens in front of friends and family.  Entertainment, excitement, and enthusiasm from contestants at pageant finale night culminates three days of fun and competition in workshops, talent, interviews, introductions, and formalwear.

“We have girls coming from across New Mexico including Holloman AFB, Farmington, Rio Rancho, La Jara, Silver City, Hobbs, Dora, Roswell, Las Cruces, Silver City, Santa Fe, Espanola, Edgewood, and Albuquerque” said Ms. Michele Duran Skroch, Director of the state pageant.

All the girls gain confidence to speak, interview and appear in public through workshops and pageant events.  This continues throughout the year as this New Mexico Royalty performs public service activities, meets government officials, and attends national competition in Orlando Florida.  This year “family night” extends a short fun pageant to mothers and grandmothers as well as fathers, brothers, grandfathers, and brothers.

“We’re also fortunate to have an outstanding panel of judges including local business persons and New Mexico royalty such as Cortney Whitley, Mrs. New Mexico-America 2007.  Jenny Marlowe, Miss New Mexico 2007, will also present one of four workshops to the contestants.  Our girls will interact with great role models this week; it’s all part of the pageant experience.”

“We expect an audience of 400 family and friends at Pageant finale on Saturday,” said Ms. Skroch.  “It’s not only a fun time for the girls, but a great time for family to get together and have fun while supporting their princess.”

State-wide pageant set to crown seven queens and prepare them for nationals.

Girls aged 3-22 enter New Mexico’s American Coed State Pageant July 25-28th.

Albuquerque, NM – With the fun and excitement of pageants often seen in the news, many girls dream of winning a crown and gaining confidence to wear it in public.  A path to make those dreams come true isn’t far away this year for many New Mexico girls aged 3-22 as the New Mexico American Coed Pageant event is held in Albuquerque this summer.

“This year we’re holding the state pageant at the historic Wool Warehouse in downtown Albuquerque in order to provide a richer experience with full stage.” said Ms. Michele Duran Skroch, Director of the state pageant. “That’s important because participants will better learn poise, self confidence, and experience communicating in public.  These are skills that are valuable for a lifetime.”

Last year’s American Coed Royalty came from across New Mexico including Albuquerque, Artesia, Clovis, Dora, Española, and Roswell.  They’ve all had a great time performing public service activities, meeting government officials, and attending national competition in Orlando Florida.  They also won first place for Queens Float during the 2006 New Mexico State Fair Parade.

“We expect over 80 families at the State Pageant this July,” said Ms. Skroch.  “Besides having a lot of fun and receiving awards, we want to see as many girls as possible gain more experience.  Along with the seven queens in different age categories, runners up and winners of individual optional talent events are also eligible to go to nationals.  That’s often 25 to 35 others girls and young women.”

Girls have fun learning a choreographed dance for entertainment at finale night.  They participate in multiple workshops and training sessions at the pageant to help them prepare them for competition.

It takes time to prepare for a pageant, so girls should get started soon.  More information is available at http://nmcoed.com, or by calling 505-897-2633.
