News for
Contestants
This news is directed toward our registered contestants, and those who
will be traveling to Nationals. Check here for latest information
about Pageant Weekend in Albuquerque and Nationals in Orlando, Florida!
- 20 Jan 2008 -
Congratulations to our new NM Jr. Teen, Mattie Pacheco and our new Coed
Bianca Otero. Mattie and Bianca will fulfill the remaining term
of their queen titles for 2008! Go girls!!
See their pictures on the Royalty page.
- 20 Jan 2008 - New rules for states
from Nationals:
- Our director has decided to participate in the new
rules for
girls that are not eligible to run in the current year, i.e., reigning
queens giving up their titles and former queens who have not aged up to
the next division. For the cost of a state sponsor fee, you will
be
appointed as a city queen and can still go to Nationals as an appointed
queen. This means that you can have another shot at
nationals. (You
still must pay the standard national queen competition fees.) If
you
send one page of your required ad sales to Nationals by the date of the
state pageant (total required pages is still two pages), we will have a
special ceremony for you at State to present the crown and
banner!
Please call state director for details! This is an exciting
change to
our rules for ACP!
- 19-24 Nov 2007 -
Queens Ashlynn Ota, Andriana Hahn, and Kaija Bales attended nationals
along with Desiree Tafoya, NM Hostess and National Cover Girl 2007 as
well as Bianca Otero, Miss NM Ambassador 2007. Pictures will be
posted in the Gallery section when we receive them.
- 10 July 2007 -
Newsletter #3 was mailed to all registered participants. This
consisted of a folder with many separate fliers.
- 22 Apr 2007 - Newsletter #2 has been
completed. This is the newsletter sent after you pay your
sponsorship fee. It is also available on our web site in the
contestants-only area.
- 7 Mar 2007 - We've
had to move the 2007 Pageant to Albuquerque's Historic downtown Wool Warehouse.
We loved the MCM last year, but the low ceiling in the ballroom there
didn't give much room for our contestants on the raised stage.
The benefit is that this facility has a large stage that should be
great for the girls.
- 17 Feb 2007 - The
satin banner and crown available as either the Finalist level, Hostess,
or Cover Girl, all obtained through the advertising awards activity,
can be worn at the State Pageant outside of competition events.
- 15 Feb 2007 - There
is new information on the Contest &
Awards page about Mini-Optionals and the Hostess and Cover Girl titles. Based upon
feedback from contestants last year, we restructured this ad sales
activity and reduced cost per page. In addition, we have further
discounts ending March 1st and April 15th. More information is in
the February 2007 issue of Queen's
Quill.
- 6 Feb 2007 - We
have put the first issue of our eight-page Queen's QuillTM
newsletter together and will mail it out to many, particularly those
who have shown a stronger interest in the pageant. Queen's Quill current
and past issues are available on the Queen's
Quill web site.
- 31 Jan 2007 - We
mailed out our pageant postcard to some on our mailing list to kick off
the 2007 season. The postcard goes to those who haven't yet
expressed strong interest in participating.
- 3 Nov 2006 -
We priority mailed the pageant DVDs from Video
Tape It! to those that preordered the videos. There are two DVDs
for the standard competitions and one for the optionals. A few
production glitches made this take longer than we expected, but the
quality of the videos is great! The video is captured from three
cameras at the event. There is also a short video introduction
about registration and other initial events at the pageant! If
you'd like to order these DVDs now,
please do so by emailing info@nmcoed.com or calling us. You
can view the opening segment clips as MP4 files here: SMALL

Albuquerque Mayor, Martin Chavez,
welcomed all contestants to his
city. See his letter below. Click on the image for a larger

NM Girls Crowned State Royalty in Miss
American Coed Pageant
Fourteen
girls from across New Mexico were crowned royalty at Albuquerque’s
historic Wool Warehouse.
Albuquerque, NM – Girls from across New Mexico waited on stage as seven
queens were crowned at Albuquerque’s historic Wool Warehouse
Theater. Seven other crowned royalty titles and many other awards
were given on finale night after entertainment was provided to the
audience of 300 family and friends.
The pageant has seven age categories from 3-22 years. Pageant
finale night, July 28th, culminated three days of workshops, socials,
rehearsals, competition, and fun for 28 enthusiastic contestants and
2006 Royalty.
“All of the girls learned so much at this year’s workshops and
competitions. It was great to see how confidence grew as they
practiced their events and entertainment routines,” said Michele Duran
Skroch, Director of the pageant. “Our new Royalty are on a path
that will include public service events all year and lead to National
competition this November in Orlando, Florida.”
New Mexico Royalty for 2007 has home towns in Albuquerque, Farmington,
Hobbs, Holloman AFB, Las Cruces, Santa Fe, and Silver City:

Mexico-America 2007 also attended to judge and meet with the
girls. A fun “Family Night” included a light competition and
crowning of mothers, grandmothers, as well as fathers, and brothers.
All the girls were winners by gaining confidence to speak, interview
and appear in public. This continues throughout the year as this
New Mexico Royalty performs public service activities, meets government
officials, and eventually attends national competition in Orlando,
Florida.
