In addition to information this and the above pages, we've also assembled a Frequently Asked Questions page where you can read answers to questions that have come from past contestants.

One theme you should find throughout our State Pageant is that we truly want to give our contestants multiple opportunities to participate, gain skills in the process, and win a path to compete at the National Level.  Your participation in public events and service as a State Queen, Hostess, or Miss Victory will help pave a successful path at the National Pageant.

Who can participate?

Whether you wish to gain experience and confidence of taking, presenting, and interviewing in front of others, plan a career in business or modeling, or if you just want to participate in Pageant events, being in the New Mexico American Coed Pageant is a big step toward success. The confidence, interview skills and poise you will acquire will help you throughout life. This is a very special opportunity for you, an opportunity to enjoy the glamor and excitement many girls only get to dream! Yes, you really could be the next Miss New Mexico American Coed, Teen, Junior Teen, Preteen, Sweetheart, Princess, or Petite Princess!

Our pageant is open to residents of New Mexico between the ages of 3 and 22. You are not required to be a local pageant winner in order to participate. In fact, many of our winners have never competed in a pageant before.  American Coed Pageants hosts the following age divisions at the state and national levels.  Age is determined on January 1st of the year of competition.  A queen is selected in each age division at the state and national levels.

Age Range
Division
3*

Petite Princess*
4-6
Princess
7-9
Sweetheart
10-12
Pre-Teen
13-15
Junior Teen
16-18
Teen
19-22
Coed

* Petite Princess is a category that exists at the State level and not the National level.  At Nationals, there is no Petite category and the age range of Princess is 3-6 years of age.  Our State Director feels the Petite category provides our younger girls with a better peer group to compete since abilities between 3 and 6 year olds are significant.  Petite Princess Queens are not compensated for travel to Nationals; however, they may travel to Nationals and compete in the Princess category.

Perhaps you are participating to win the grand prize and one of the New Mexico titles, or perhaps you simply want to learn how to “look and act like a model.” Dynamic young ladies with a variety of experiences come together and merge into one splendid event of drama and glamor. The experience is designed to help you develop leadership skills and foster some very special friendships--which will last for years to come.

Everyone participating will receive the training necessary to successfully present themselves to the judges. We help you develop the skills, poise and confidence you need to successful.  See our Frequently Asked Questions page for answers to more of your questions.

Pageant Dates and Locations

The 2008 New Mexico American Coed Pageant will be three and a half days long.   Registration takes place Wednesday July 23rd in the afternoon. Pageant activities are Thursday through Saturday July 24-26th.

Register early and make sure you have time to obtain your outfits!

Our 2008 Pageant location is at the Hilton Garden Inn Albuquerque Uptown* located off I-40 and Louisiana.  We urge everyone to stay here because some of our events will be located at this facility.

6510 Americas Parkway
Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA 87110

* This location is a change from our previously posted host hotel.  We love the Elegante; however,  new stage height requirements could not be accommodated in their ballroom.  If you've booked at the Elegante, we suggest you switch to this hotel, which is closer to the pageant facility and will host our various socials.

This facility has a microwave and refrigerator in each room.  The pool has a two-story slide.  We'll have pictures soon.  More information soon on our room block costs.

Expenses

There are expenses associated with entering and preparation for any pageant.  If you're not familiar with pageants or are new to the American Coed Pageant, the following may be useful in understanding pageant expenses.

Application Fee

Application fee for this pageant is $20.  This fee is listed on the application, and will be credited toward your Sponsor Fee.

Sponsor Fee

Sponsor fees help offset the cost of producing the pageant.  Every contestant needs one or more Sponsors in order to compete in the Pageant.  Your sponsor(s) names will be listed under your photo in the State Pageant Book.

Finding sponsors is surprisingly easy. Some participants are sponsored by their parents. Others choose to be sponsored by people their parents do business with such as your dentist, grocer, hair dresser, etc. Sponsor fees are tax deductible as an advertising expense for businesses. Many organizations sponsor young women who are a positive reflection on their community. Sponsor fees are not refundable.  We give you ideas about obtaining sponsors in material we will send after receiving your application.

The sponsor fee for this State pageant is $349.  Your application fee will be deducted from this amount (leaving $329).  Sibling discount is $100, so each additional sibling in the same family pays a total of only $249 for the sponsor fee.  We provide the information you need along with some fund raising ideas. All you add is enthusiasm.

Specials are offered for early payment of the Sponsor Fee.  Check the NEWS and APPLICATION pages for these specials, or call the Director!

There is more information about sponsor fees and how to obtain them on our Frequently Asked Questions page.

Official Production Outfit

While participating in the state pageant, a choreographer will teach you and the other girls a set of  production dances to entertain the guests on the final day of the pageant.  All contestants must purchase the production number outfit so they have the same outfit and can properly participate in this experience.

In, 2008, we decided to provide a better production outfit rather than a t-shirt and shorts has been done in the past.  See the outfit shown to the left.  It fits into a pageant theme, "Country Western."  The cost for this outfit is $70 to $80.  You get to keep the outfit.  Additional information about this is included on our Outfits Page.

Optional Competitions

Many of our optional competitions are free.  Some of the competitions, particularly those that pose additional costs for the pageant, such as judging, have a competition fee of $50 to $75.  Our mini-optionals typically cost $25 each.  Most optionals have specials and discounts before the pageant.  See the Contests section of this page for more information.

Transportation and Lodging

While attending the pageant, particularly from out of town, you may choose to stay at the Pageant hotel.  Although it's not required, we actually recommend this as it reduces  your stress by being close to the event and having your own room nearby.  So, even if you live in or nearby Albuquerque, you may want to stay at the hotel.  If you have to travel to the pageant from other parts of New Mexico, you'll have those costs as well as costs for food during your time attending the pageant.

Other Expenses

There is often a mandatory lunch or other meals held for contestants and their guardian on the first day of the pageant.  There is a small, nominal fee for catered food at the hotel.

You may choose to purchase interview and evening gown outfits for the pageant, although you may already have them in your own closet!  Additional information about this is included on our Outfits Page.

Sign up today to become your State's next Miss American Coed, Teen, Jr. Teen, Pre-Teen, Sweetheart, or Princess Winner! No application will be evaluated unless all instructions are completed in full and on time - so don't delay! Good Luck!

More Information

Once you register for the pageant with the application, you'll receive mailings from us with more specific information.

One way we provide information to you is through NMACP Newsletter #1, which is sent to you after receiving your application.  It introduces you to the pageant and explains what you can do next to get ready for the pageant.  Newsletter #2 is typically sent after you pay your sponsorship fee.  It includes interview guidelines and tips, entry forms for various optional competitions, production outfit information, a more detailed agenda of the State Pageant and explanation of what will happen there, such as special events.  Newsletter #3 is sent before the pageant and provides more detail.   Don't worry if you're entering the pageant closer to the event date, it doesn't take long to go through the newsletters.

In addition to the three standard pageant newsletters above, we publish Queen's Quill, another source of information about the pageant that is also intended to contain general pageantry information and events.

There is additional information on our web site that is not listed on this page.  Select the links at the top of this page, or those below which go into more detail:
