Judging & Judges

Scoring & Judging

A panel of judges will select the State Pageant Winner in each division. All scoring takes place on pageant weekend. Individual scores are totaled and the contestant with the highest score is judged the winner. Total score for State Queen titles are divided in this way:
  • 1/3 Poise and Appearance in Formal Wear
  • 1/3 Personal Introduction in Interview Outfit
  • 1/3 Personality during a Personal Interview
Judges will score contestants on poise and appearance as each contestant is escorted on stage in evening wear.  This is a formal event for the contestants and escorts.  Your dad, granddad, uncle, brother, or a male friend may escort you if he follows the escort outfit guidelines.  Rehearsal with escorts is scheduled before evening wear competition. If you do not bring an escort, one will be provided for you.

In order to provide you with the most current and accurate information, content on this page is subject to update or change at any time.

Each contestant will introduce herself to the panel of judges before interviews, giving her name, hometown, and one thing she wants the judges to know about herself.  Your introduction may last up to twenty seconds.

A panel of judges will interview each contestant.  This is done in a one-on-one format.  Each contestant will spend a few moments with each judge individually.  She will be asked questions she can easily answer.  She will not be asked questions about politics, religion, dating, etc.  Judges will not score contestants on what they know, but on their poise, personality, appearance, and self confidence.

See the Outfits Page and Pageant Outfits Section to learn more about particulars of your outfits' appearance and requirements for your escort.

Judges are also involved in many of the optional contests.
