Pageant Information
Contests & Awards

So that we can better represent the diversity of talents and skills in our pageant, we make available a range of contests, in addition to our standard pageant competitions.  These are all optional, but afford your daughter the ability to showcase her talent or ensure a place in the state royalty so that she participates in events and dignitary visits.  Entering or not entering these contests will not affect the scoring for the Pageant Title.

Each may have age range restrictions and optional entry fees.  You do not need to decide which of these contests you want to participate in until you receive your Official Acceptance notification. It will contain all the information you need to help you decide. Each category is an extra opportunity for you to be a winner!  Additional detail about these contests is included in Newsletter #1 and Newsletter #2, which is sent to registered contestants.  You can also ask questions of the Director at any time if you have interest.

Awards are related to the contests and other participation such as ad sales for the Miss Hostess and Cover Girl titles.

Best Smile

Best Hair

Best Evening Gown

Best Introduction Outfit

Miss Glamour
Mini-Optionals

Announcing our Mini Optionals--a trend we've seen at nationals.  This is a great way to win unique awards at the pageant, along with gifts from sponsors.  These Mini Optionals will be judged by a separate panel from the standard and optional panels.   Winners of each age category for each optional are recognized on stage.

Here’s how it works:  The standard panel of judges will be seated to the right of each contestant (if you’re on stage facing the audience), just as it’s been done in the past.  The Mini Optional panel will be to the left.  These panels will not commingle.  They will be kept separate so that there is no bias in the judging.  For each category of minis, the mini optional judges will only be scoring one particular thing.

For Best Smile, Best Eyes, and Best Hair, contestants will be scored twice (during evening gown competition and introduction).  This will give a real true meaning to “best” in these categories.  Of course, best evening gown and best introduction outfit will only be scored once (during their said competition).   Combined scores from all judges on the mini panel will determine winner.

Mini-optionals brings us another crowned and titled event!  Those contestants entered in all five categories qualify for the “Miss Glamour,” a title that captures the intent of this competition. Their scores will be combined from each category and the contestant with the highest score from all minis will be crowned Miss Glamour with banner.  She will be considered State Royalty for the coming year.  She will also be invited to attend Nationals.  There will be one Miss Glamour in each age division with three or more qualified contestants.  Those age divisions with fewer qualified contestants will be merged with an adjacent age division for that title.  This is another great way to provide additional chances to win and opportunity to take part in State Royalty activities.

This is a very exciting contest for us to add to our pageant this year.  Nationals offered it last year, and they anticipate even more participation this year.

So get ready...enter all the minis for just $100.  Minis are $25 per contest or buy four and get the fifth free.  Contestants that enter all five are automatically entered into the Miss Glamour. Good luck!!

Please note the following concerning contests:

Some contest structure, format, and awards depend on the number of entries per category, this information will be available closer to the Pageant date.  For instance, contests awards may be offered by grouping levels if a smaller number participate.  Please call the New Mexico State Director for more information.

Awards

Just as our contests provide additional opportunity to demonstrate a wide range of  talent and skills in our participants, the awards are also arranged to recognize that talent and skill, as well as participation in our pageant.  Awards may not only include a crown, banner, hotel stays, and travel awards; some include eligibility to compete at the National Pageant for Miss Victory and optional contests.

Queens of each State Pageant, one in each age division, will receive these awards noted in the summary below.

The Queen's Court (exact size depends on number of entries, but often first through fourth runners-up) will each receive a Trophy and the opportunity to compete at the National Pageant for the national crown.  If a runner-up pays to attend nationals, they will be awarded a city or locality title, sash, and crown by the national office.  The crown and sash help them better compete at nationals.  In addition, they are then considered part of the State Royalty.

Winners of each paid optional event (Miss Victory, cheerleader, talent, speech, photogenic, sportswear modeling, and talent) are eligible to compete at the National Pageant for Miss Victory and all the paid optional activities at the National Pageant.  All girls archiving Miss Hostess and Miss Cover Girl through the advertising program can also travel to Nationals.

The following list of awards is provided as a quick summary:

Advertising Awards

(updated 16 Feb 2007 to be consistent with New Mexico's Program)
It has never been easier to win awards, prizes, and the State Hostess or State Cover Girl title, crown, and banner!  You could even obtain the title of National Hostess with crown and banner.  Everyone wins through participation in the Advertising Sales program.

This program is designed to provide other avenues of opportunity to contestants to be crowned, win awards, prizes, and attend Nationals.   The State Hostesses, Cover Girls and National Hostesses can participate in year-round pageant activities with the rest of New Mexico's royalty.  They also can optionally attend Nationals and compete for Miss Victory in that national competition.  The National Hostess is not only recognized at the State level, but is crowned and participates in many events at the National competitions in Orlando.

These advertising awards are formally presented early in the State pageant so that the girls can be recognized and wear their banner and crown for much of the time at the State Competition.  The five levels that are formally recognized are:
  • Silver - State Finalist satin banner
  • Gold - State Finalist satin banner and crown
  • Platinum - New Mexico Hostess title, satin banner, and crown
  • Opal - New Mexico Cover Girl title, satin banner, and crown
  • Diamond - National Hostess title, satin banner, and crown
Duran Event (DE) gift certificates can be used for any State Competition fee, the pageant DVD set, at the novelty table, or at our Princess Potpourri web store.
